Summary: The WADA Prohibited List Copy

The key points learned in this module were:

1. In order to be included on the Prohibited List, a substance or method must meet two out of three criteria:

  • It has the potential to enhance or enhances sport performance
  • It represents an actual or potential health risk to the athlete
  • It violates the spirit of sport

2. The Prohibited List is updated annually and goes into effect on January 1st of each year.

3. Consider permitted alternatives when appropriate.

4. USADA encourages the use of the Global DRO platform to check the status of medications and provides additional interpretation of the WADA Prohibited List on our website. Of particular note is our Athlete Guide to the Prohibited List which we encourage medical providers to review annually at the beginning of every calendar year.
